STREAM SASCHA FUNKE’S “TREETS” EP
After returning to Kompakt last week with his EP “Treets” after a long hiatus, Funke said he was “very happy to be back on the Kompakt mothership.” We sat down with him and discussed the new EP and more.
HAS SOMETHING REMAINED CONSTANT ABOUT YOUR PRODUCTION STYLE DURING THIS PERIOD?
I do not think so. Since 2014, eight years have passed during which I have evolved musically in very different directions.
This was enhanced by the use of new synths and sound sources. It would be very boring for me to produce in a consistent style. So you could say that the only constancy is change.

I spent a lot of time with my modular rig during this time and played with modules mainly from ALM Busy Circuits, Make Noise and Intellijel.
All vocal samples were processed with Morphagene and Squid Sample (also for beats). From the synths section, I used many sounds from the Roland JP 8080 and Yamaha DX 200 to achieve a more 90s digital sound.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE MUSIC FROM YOUR NEW EP?
Hard to say. All the tracks have a different vibe. But probably “Treets” is still my favorite track. It sums up the whole idea of the EP.
DO YOU HAVE A SONG THAT YOU LIKE TO PLAY IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR SETS?
Often, the smaller leads are the big winners in the middle of a set.
DO YOU THINK CASSETTE TURNTABILISM HAS BECOME MORE THAN A NICHE ART FORM?
To be honest, I’m hearing about it for the first time. It sounds fascinating. I’m still a big fan of cassettes and I have a tape recorder in my old car where I listen to a lot of music.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE RESTAURANT THAT YOU LOOK FORWARD TO DURING YOUR VISIT?
I like Mexican cuisine. Whenever I DJ at my good friend Champis club Topaz Deluxe in Monterrey, we go and eat at his restaurant Laszlo Espacio beforehand. I am already looking forward to the next visit.
WE’RE ALREADY HALFWAY THROUGH 2022. WHAT HAVE YOU PLANNED MUSICALLY FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR AND AT THE BEGINNING OF 2023?
Currently, I’m working on new tracks that will be released in 2023. Where exactly won’t it be revealed yet? There will also be a digital release on Permanent Vacation in late 2022.
