Dragonette Unveils ‘Seasick’ From Upcoming Album ‘Twennies’ – Retro Pop

Dragonette released their latest single Seasicknessfrom the new album ‘Twennies’.

The electro-pop star’s new album is her first full album since 2016’s ‘Royal Blues’, which features previously released tracks new suit and Twenty years.

Of her latest single, she says:Seasickness is important to me because I know it’s a pretty dark traumatic heartbreak, which I’ve written about a LOT.

“But in this song, I can hear things healing. There is a lightness of heart that took time (and therapy) to achieve.

Speaking in the October 2022 issue of Retro Pop, Martina reflected on how welcoming her son in 2018 affected her outlookrevealing, “It took me a long time. For a while, I couldn’t even manage to combine these two aspects of me – being an artist, a singer, a performer and being a mum. very different; it didn’t overlap at all.

“I couldn’t figure out how to mix these things up or if I was allowed to be a mom. It took a long time to be like, ‘Oh these things co-exist and this is who I am. I don’t know how it affected my songwriting, but it had to happen. I just don’t know how…”

For the musician, it was a transition that felt like a new beginning, as she compares the change in lifestyle to her early years in music.

“I started in Dragonette just finding out who I was and at first it was like playing a role: ‘I’m crazy and flamboyant!'” she recalled. “And then little by little, I think I learned that the most important thing to represent is myself.

“When I had a kid, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I don’t know how to do this. I don’t know how to authentically represent this part of me. I think it has to do with the fact that there aren’t many women in music who come out as mothers.

“It’s not like we don’t see it; it’s just like, we like 18 year old girls and as soon as they turn into something else – who isn’t 18 and moms, all that kind of stuff – the media in general gives a lot less credit pay attention to what they are saying and what they are doing.

“So I think because I didn’t see a lot of that reflected on me, I didn’t know how to do it and it took me a while to figure it out.”

‘Twennies’ is released on October 28 and available for pre-order now.
