Treat yourself to a subscription to the literary magazine FIYAH for 2020

I think it’s not too early for me to start planning what I want 2020 to look like, so I was really happy when FIYAH Literary Magazine tweeted this timely reminder on Friday to pre-order a subscription:

If you haven’t heard of FIYAH, it’s a “quarterly speculative fiction magazine that features stories by and about black people in the African Diaspora.” What is speculative fiction? It is a generic term for fiction that contains things that are not of this world. Do you like science fiction? Do you like fantasy? Do you like dystopian fiction? These (and more) are all speculative fiction, also known as specfic.

FIYAH was the winner of the World Fantasy Awards in 2018 and a finalist for the Hugo Awards in 2019. The founding editor was author (and former Rioter!) Justina Ireland and the current editor is author (and also former Rioter!) Troy L. Wiggins. As the tweet mentions, FIYAH pays its writers and artists and it needs followers to do that. They are about 300 subscriptions away from their goal of covering their 2020 operating costs.

I’m a big fan of specfic, especially Black specfic, and look forward to supporting a publication that pays its authors. I am also very happy that I can not only buy myself a subscription, but also be able to buy gift subscriptions. It’s a great publication that features phenomenal fiction, so let’s help them achieve their goal!
