Seasonal car maintenance will do more than keep your car in good working order, it will save you money as you improve your car’s trade-in value, get the most mileage, and avoid costly repairs in a near future! When you service your vehicle regularly and maintain a maintenance schedule, you play an important role in preventative maintenance and safety on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that about one in eight accidents can be attributed to mechanical faults due to neglected car maintenance. It’s a sad statement to make, but if you keep your car maintained and serviced regularly, the statistics are in your favor.
With fall here and winter on the horizon, let’s take a look at what you can do to avoid costly repairs and stay safe as the new season dawns.
Start with an oil and filter change, coolant service and safety check. Typically, coolant should be changed every two years, but in many new vehicles it can last up to about five years. It’s a good idea to have an emergency kit in your car. As a Californian, it’s a necessity due to earthquakes! Make sure you have a pair of gloves, walking shoes, blankets, flares, flashlight and water in your kit! It doesn’t hurt to have a few high energy bars or snacks in your glove compartment too!
Remember, there really is no reason to delay or avoid having your car serviced, why wait? Your car will be more reliable if you take care of it during the fall and winter months and if your family’s safety is ensured.
