General Motors Co.’s Chevrolet brand of Detroit has launched the 2024 Silverado HD with powertrain upgrades, a revised interior, improvements to its towing technology, and upgrades to infotainment and safety technology active.

“We designed the Silverado HD to be our customers’ preferred choice for true truck capability,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “The enhancements to the 2024 model build on its core strengths to provide an even stronger balance of design, strength and confidence that makes getting tough jobs done, including towing, easier and more convenient than ever before. .”

The lineup includes 2500HD and 3500HD models in Regular Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab configurations. Dual-rear-wheel models are available on the 3500HD and support the highest towing capacity in the lineup: 36,000 pounds.

The 2024 Silverado HD is available in Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country trim levels. The ZR2 will join the HD trim lineup later in the model year for the first time.

For the first time, the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission is now standard equipment for both Silverado HD powertrains – the standard 6.6-liter V-8 gasoline engine and the available Duramax turbodiesel. It replaces the gasoline engine’s previous six-speed automatic, offering smaller “steps” between gears, allowing the engine to maintain closer to its maximum output for longer periods.

When it comes time to tow, the 10-speed setup helps channel every pound-feet of torque to the tires at every gear. In turn, the combined gross weight rating of the 2024 Silverado HD with the 6.6-liter gas engine increases to 26,000 pounds from 24,000 pounds previously.

Additionally, the 10-speed design of the Allison transmission optimizes grade braking with the gasoline engine, with the closer gear ratios allowing for better engine braking control. This, in addition to tuning for smoother upshifts and faster downshifts, complements the improved feel of power on demand, increased control, precision and refinement.

Overall, power and torque increase to 470 hp and 975 lb-ft. of torque. Additional modifications and upgrades have been designed to produce more efficient combustion, which improves overall performance. Additionally, engineers have improved low-end torque production by up to 25% to improve low-speed or hill-climbing performance, and especially when towing.

New wheel and tire options for Silverado HD include 20-inch bright chrome wheels available on LTZ; Twin 18-inch polished aluminum wheels and all-terrain tires are optional on 3500HD LTZ and standard on 3500HD High Country; and 20-inch all-terrain tires available on Z71 Sport Edition, Midnight Special Edition, Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition and Z71 Off-Road package.

The 2024 Silverado HD features a new front appearance that includes a new fascia, new headlights, new grille and more. C-shaped LED graphic lights frame the new fascia, inspired by the signature design of the Silverado 1500, while new headlights on LTZ, ZR2 and High Country models feature dual-projector technology.

Additional exterior updates include standard tow hooks and “CHEVROLET” lettering on the hood scoop. Six new exterior colors have also been added: Sterling Grey, Dark Ash, Radiant Red, Auburn Metallic, Lakeshore Blue Metallic (late availability) and Meteorite Metallic (late availability).

The line also retains the popular Z71 Sport Edition, Z71 Chrome Sport Edition and Midnight Special Edition appearance packages, as well as the Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition.

In addition to exterior styling updates, all models received a new interior designed for greater out-of-the-box functionality and next-level technology integration.

LT, LTZ and High Country models introduce redesigned passenger space centered around an all-new instrument panel that houses a 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment screen. A configurable 12.3-inch-diagonal Driver Information Center complements the new infotainment screen. The infotainment screen and other controls are also angled towards the driver, giving it more of a “command center” perspective.

This smarter command center also includes a redesigned wireless phone charger area to reduce distractions and a stream console underneath. This latest design offers the space of a bench seat while retaining the functionality of a center console. In front of the driver is an available and configurable head-up display.

“It’s a more open and contemporary interior that passengers will find inviting,” said Phil Zak, executive director of global design at Chevrolet. “It’s an environment that intentionally puts more within reach of the driver, for a greater sense of confidence and connection with the vehicle.”

Additional interior updates and upgrades include genuine leather-wrapped surfaces and real wood accents available on select models; more space for side-by-side cupholders in the console, with a total of 10 cupholders available; air vents and climate controls for second-row passengers; and improved hidden storage, including in the console, upper and lower glove boxes, and a sunglasses holder behind the infotainment screen.

Chevrolet’s suite of customer-focused towing technologies is designed to enhance the experience with optimal visibility, easier hitching and greater ride comfort when towing a trailer. It’s enhanced with the 2024 Silverado HD, with a number of improved and new features, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailer, which accounts for extra drag and increased braking distances when towing a trailer; improved transparent trailer extends current technology by allowing it to work with fifth wheel and gooseneck trailers; Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert expands the blind zone area of interest to help improve safety and situational awareness when towing; and the GCW alert notifies the driver if the weight of the vehicle and trailer exceeds the combined gross vehicle weight rating.

Additionally, the Maximum Towing Package is now available on all Silverado 2500 trims, bringing the maximum towing capacity of the 2500HD Series equipped with the 6.6-liter V8 turbo-diesel engine to 22,500 pounds.

The High Country trim features an exclusive Nightshift Blue interior, which includes Jet Black and Umber elements. The cabin also sports new metallic “High Country” badges on the center console and “High Country” embroidery on the headrests, covered with unique Ares leather seating surfaces that feature a wingtip pattern.

The seats also feature premium cloth piping, while the door panels include cloth piping and genuine open-pore wood trim. The wood also serves as a decorative trim on the upper glove box. On the exterior, an exclusive new design of 20-inch High Country bright chrome wheels is standard.

Additional High Country details and standard features include heated and ventilated power front seats with memory and haptic sensors, acid-etched stainless steel speaker grilles for the seven-speaker Bose sound system standard speakers, rain-sensing wipers and wireless charging located in the center console.

The 2024 Silverado HD High Country version will also be available with a new Midnight Edition. First available on the High Country trim, the Midnight Edition darkens the exterior with black chrome accents in the grille and grille bar and replaces the black badging. Black power running boards complete the look. The Silverado HD High Country Midnight Edition also includes standard 20-inch gloss black-painted wheels, with 22-inch wheels in the same finish available.
